Evan Blasts Legislature
Wynn Blasts Legislature's Inefficiency, Calls For a New Direction
May 6, 2010
(Whitewater) – Today, Evan Wynn, candidate for the 43rd State Assembly District, blasted the state legislature for spending more time raising taxes and naming the state microbe than working to create or retain jobs in Wisconsin.
“First it was Harley-Davidson’s woes in the news, then SkipperLiner Industries of LaCrosse closed their doors, putting 55 people out of work,” Wynn said in a statement. “When will the legislature wake up to the fact that their billions in tax increases last year are hurting businesses around the state? The incumbent politicians have been too busy naming the state microbe to realize that the state is floundering.”
SkipperLiner Industries Inc. of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, a custom boat builder, shut their doors on April 30, according to a report by the LaCrosse Tribune. They recently took out hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans through the state government and their local economic development authority. Despite this influx of cash, SkipperLiner was unable to stay afloat.
“Kim Hixson repeatedly supported the efforts of the out-of-touch leadership in the Assembly, yet when another company shuts down and Rock County's unemployment rate is in the double digits because of their failed policies, Hixson attempts to highlight his job-creation efforts.” Wynn said. “The citizens of the 43rd District put their faith in Hixson to salvage the economy and provide leadership, and instead he followed lock-step with the Madison politicians, trying so hard to look busy while doing nothing at all to help save and create jobs.”
“The citizens of the 43rd District feel betrayed and abandoned by Hixson, and they should,” Wynn added. “It’s time for a new direction.”
Wynn believes that it is conservative principles like lower taxes, streamlined regulation, and a clear and consistent voice for small businesses that will turn around the business climate in Wisconsin.
“I believe that the key to keeping jobs and businesses in Wisconsin is to end hidden and double taxes like combined reporting, and to streamline regulation,” Wynn said. “If elected, I will stand up to the special interests of Madison and be a clear voice for small businesses in the 43rd District, and lead the state in a new direction.”
Wynn announced his candidacy on March 18, 2010, and has since been talking to citizens and small business owners throughout the district about why they think the state is headed in the wrong direction.
