Wisconsin Voters Reaffirm Commitment to Prosperity
Janesville,WI—August 10th, 2011—Last night, four Republican Senators survived recall attempts by Democrats and their network of special interest groups, many of which are out of state. Despite the fact that these groups poured almost 15 million dollars into these races, Wisconsin voters retained control over their government and reaffirmed their commitment, made in November, to restoring prosperity to the state by supporting the Scott Walker plan and the Republican legislature. Of all the money spent in these races, the two most notable are Senator Darling’s race where special interest groups spent over two and a half million dollars and Senator Olson’s race, where the same groups spent almost two and a half million dollars. Both Republican senators retained their seats. Voters in these districts weren't fooled by the deceptive advertisements by anonymous groups that have scant ties to the State of Wisconsin.
According to the chairman of the Republican Party of Rock County, Jason Mielke, “Wisconsin voters aren’t fooled by the ads and they certainly aren’t swayed by unruly mobs that, despite all of their time spent protesting in the capital and chanting, ‘shame, shame, shame’ at lawmakers trying to bring jobs to the state, have failed to produce even one realistic plan to close Wisconsin’s 3.2 billion dollar budget deficit and bring jobs back. Governor Walker and the Republican legislature did just that all while protecting the quality of education and ensuring public services continue unharmed. Yesterday, voters overwhelmingly approved of the job that they are doing.”
Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly supported Republicans in the November, 2010 election by giving control of the governorship, the assembly, and the senate to Wisconsin Republicans. Democrats sought to overturn those victories through recall elections held on August 9th. To be successful, Democrats would need to recall 3 Republican Senators. Despite the millions of dollars poured into these recall attempts, Democrats could only recall two Republicans which leaves the Senate firmly in control of the Republican Party.
