Wynn Blasts Hixson for Attack on Military Service

(Whitewater) -- Evan Wynn, a first-time candidate for the Wisconsin State Assembly’s 43rd district, running as a Republican, and an Iraq War veteran, blasted incumbent Rep. Kim Hixson for attacking those who serve in the military.
At a recent candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Whitewater, Hixson stated during his opening remarks, “My opponent believes the State Assembly is just another occupational option,” and that Wynn does not understand what it means to be in public service.

“I’ve served 22 years in the military, including a combat tour in Iraq,” Wynn responded.  “The Veterans Administration has rated me as 80 percent disabled due to my combat-related injuries.  I think I know what it means to serve the public.”

“When Hixson makes statements like those he made during the candidate forum, he is not only attacking my public service in the military, but also the service of those I fought beside on the frontlines of Iraq,” Wynn continued.  “Sadly, there were many brave soldiers I fought with who did not make it home.  They paid the ultimate sacrifice in serving the American public and protecting our freedom and rights.  For what my comrades and I have done for this country, this is the thanks we get from individuals like Kim Hixson.”

Wynn served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and another 18 years in the Army as a paratrooper.  He served one combat tour in Iraq where he earned the Bronze Star.  He continues to support veterans by serving as the Senior Vice Commander for District 1 of the Wisconsin Veterans of Foreign Wars and being a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
